On March 3/22/2018, morning Comet Care is delayed two hours and will start at 9 am.  In the event that the school needs to close tomorrow (Thursday, 03/22/18) that decision will be made between 5:30 and 6:00 am.
If conditions prevent Comet Care from opening, parent notifications will be received very quickly after the decision is made (around 6:00 – 6:30 am).

With the possibility of inclement weather approaching, we wanted to send a friendly reminder regarding the Comet Care Program Policy and operating hours for a delayed opening, early dismissal or school closing. 

Please refer to our policy along with the chart below:

Comet Care Emergency Closing / Delayed Opening Policy:

When school is cancelled for the entire day due to bad weather or other emergencies, the Comet Care Program will also be closed. If a Delayed Opening is called for any emergency reason, Comet Care program will also be delayedThe District’s Emergency Phone System will notify you if there is a delayed opening. Information regarding closings is also posted on our Web Site:


Early Dismissal

If it becomes necessary to close school early due to inclement weather, an emergency, or after school activities are cancelled once the school day has begun, the Comet Care Program will also be cancelled and children will be sent home. The Superintendent will issue a School Messenger alert to all parents. In addition, the Comet Care phone chains will be activated, and the site leaders will attempt to contact the Comet Care parents directly, if needed.


Parents are reminded to:

1)         Make provisions for emergency dismissals or delayed openings.
2)         Instruct their children about these emergency arrangements.
3)         Have these arrangements in place at the beginning of the school year to be prepared for any emergency situations.
4)         Listen to radio announcements; check our Web Site, view local/cable television during questionable weather conditions.
5)         Keep emergency telephone numbers current; the emergency contacts listed must be available during school hours, reliable, and from the local area.

The Comet Care program is a tuition-based before and after school program that provides a safe, affordable and nurturing environment to the residents of Swedesboro and Woolwich Township.   While at Comet Care, children will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities including outdoor play, crafts, games and homework time.  Comet Care is for the children who will attend grades Kindergarten through Grade 6 in September 2017.

Students from the Walter Hill School will be bused over to the Harker School for the PM session.  Walter Hill students in the AM session will be bused to the Walter Hill School from the Harker School.
